Frequently asked questions about wetsuits

Finding the right wetsuit might seem challenging, but with the basics in mind, you'll make the best choice in no time. Let us explain the two key features: thickness and size.

What do the numbers on a wetsuit mean? (Thickness)

Wetsuits come in various thicknesses, ranging from 2/2 mm (summer) to 6/5 mm (winter). These numbers indicate the thickness of the neoprene in millimeters:

  • The first number: The thickness around the torso and legs. This area is thicker to effectively retain body heat.

  • The second number: The thickness at the arms and stomach. This area is slightly thinner.

    • Why? Your arms are submerged less frequently and require more flexibility to move freely.

How do you choose the right size wetsuit?

We can be brief about this: wetsuit sizes work just like regular clothing. They are expressed in Small, Medium, Large, etc. As a general rule, simply choose the size you normally wear. We highly recommend to come by the shop and try them on before buying.

Price vs. Performance: What do you pay for?

Wetsuit prices vary significantly, and this is almost entirely determined by the fabrics and technologies used. While it is true that a higher price tag equals higher quality materials, the most expensive suit isn't always what you need. It depends on how you use it.

  • Entry Level: The most affordable suits use basic fabrics. These get the job done perfectly well! If you are a beginner or only go out on the water occasionally, a basic model is a smart choice.

  • Regular Use: If you plan to be on the water often, we recommend looking at the mid-to-high price range. You are paying for higher-quality neoprene that is stretchier and more comfortable, reducing fatigue and making movement easier.

  • Premium & Winter Suits: The top price tier usually consists of winter wetsuits. To combat freezing temperatures, these suits are packed with advanced technologies such as thermal rebound layers, quick-dry linings, and welded seams for maximum water resistance.
